A pair of vintage Italian 18 karat yellow gold earrings featuring exquisitely detailed medallions inspired by ancient Athenian coinage.
The obverse displays the helmeted head of Athena, goddess of wisdom and protector of Athens; the reverse, visible inside the mounting, depicts her sacred owl accompanied by the Greek inscription “ΑΘΕ”—an authentic replica of the classical tetradrachm design.
Each medallion is framed by a twisted gold rope border and encircled by a halo of 48 round brilliant-cut diamonds, adding brilliance and refinement to the sculptural form. Meticulously crafted in Italy, these earrings capture the 1980s fascination with Neoclassical revival interpreted through bold, luxurious goldwork.
