Egyptian revival earrings designed by Carl Bacher. Exceptional pair of drop earrings, created in Vienna Austria at the jewelry atelier of Carl Bacher, back in the late 19th century. These fantastic pair has been crafted around the 1870 in the fashion style of the Egyptian Revival in solid yellow gold of 18 karats and embellishments of colorful enamels; such blue, white, turquoise and red. These earrings were designed in the shape of a crowned pharaoh with nemes headdresses and column from the hypostyle saloon, they are fitted on top with French hooks for pierced ears. The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s onward, and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics. Pieces made by Carl Bacher from this period and style are extremely rare, museum pieces and highly collectable. Nemes This were pieces of striped head cloth worn by pharaohs in ancient Egypt. It covered the whole crown and behind of the head and nape of the neck (sometimes also extending a little way down the back) and had lappets, two large flaps which hung down behind the ears and in front of both shoulders. It was sometimes combined with the double crown, as it is on the statues of Ramesses II at Abu Simbel. An Egyptian revival dangle drop earrings. Fantastic pair of dangle drop earrings, created in Roma Italy during the Papal States period, back in the 1850. This pair is really incredible detailed and was carefully crafted with Egyptian revival patterns, in solid rich yellow gold of 18 karats. It is embellished with several panels decorated with intricate micro mosaics. Accented with patterns of dots and twisted tiny wires, geometrically placed. Fitted with French hooks for pierced ears. The micro mosaic panels are Italian also, surely created in Venice during the same period from more than 800 microscopic pieces, carved from natural stones, such as; blue lapis lazuli, red jasper, black onyx, green malachite, black onyx, lava, creme nacre and 24k gold. This is piece of art, composed by elements from several artistic movements, carefully mixed together during the grand tour era, such the Victorian, the Etruscan and the Egyptian revivals. One time with the Crossed Keys and a Cardinal Capello inside a triangle and one time with the maker's lozenge cartouche with the number 16 for the Roman identification goldsmith. History of the Hallmark: The first statutes of the guild of Roman goldsmiths date back to 1358, in which was stated the rule of the warranty punch.
