Issued by the Royal Mint in 1997 to commemorate the 50th wedding anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, this £5 silver proof coin is struck in sterling silver (.925) to the highest proof standard.
The obverse features the conjoined portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, designed by Philip Nathan. The reverse, modelled by Philip Nathan and designed by Leslie Durbin, displays the Royal Arms and the Duke’s Arms beneath the commemorative date “20 November 1947–1997”.
With a limited issue of 75,000 pieces, this coin is a sought-after part of modern British numismatic history and a popular choice for both royal memorabilia collectors and silver coin investors.
