About the Item
French jewellery of the twenties clearly illustrated the new tendency towards the liberated Art Deco style and prestigious artist-jewellers such as Jean Fouquet, Gerard Sandoz and Raymond Templier were leaders of this new movement.
Alongside the works of these artist-jeweller, the great jewellery houses of Boucheron, Cartier, Mauboussin etc. interpreted the geometric severity of Art Deco using an abundance of precious stones.
A new direction evolved towards the end of the Thirties, with yellow gold replacing platinum as the favoured metal. With the economic crisis of the 1930s and the outbreak of war, gold gained popularity. To compensate for the shortage of precious stones the size of pieces of jewellery increased and assumed sculptural dimensions
This comprehensive book is divided into the individual periods of the 1920s, the 1930s, and the 1940s and each stage in the evolution of this style of jewellery is discussed and fully illustrated. 329 pages with 368 colour illustrations and 456 in black
