About the Item
This is a stunning and rare antique Belle Epoque Buckle in Sterling Silver with a Gargoyle, God or Grotesque Imagery with acanthus leaf designs throughout. The Gargoyle face is surrounded by open work foliate acanthus motifs. The very unusual and dramatic buckle dates to the Victorian - Art Nouveau - Belle Epoque period, circa 1850-1890.
The buckle is 3 1/2 inches (95mm) long by 2 inches (52mm) tall.
