About the Item
Abalone, also called Paua, is a variety of marine snail, also called a marine gastropod mollusk. It’s famous for its amazing iridescent colors, which appear once the shell has been cleaned and polished. From all the mollusks that produce pearls (oyster, mussel, conch etc…) abalone is the most colorful and intriguing. Abalone pearl shouldn’t be confused with the abalone shell, which is a popular material for use in jewelry.
This rare specimen is a true collector’s item. With 3.19 x 1.70 x 0.92 inches in dimensions and an astonishing 317.23 ct of weight this tooth shaped natural pearl is probably one of the largest, currently available Abalone pearl on the market.
The gem is accompanied by GEMLAB Report no. 2546/10 stating that the pearl is a natural Abalone saltwater pearl with no indications of any treatment. The surface shows indications that it has been polished which is very common for Abalone pearls.
