About the Item
A simple yet auspicious beaded necklace comprised of 22K gold. The center bead is 1/2" and a representation of the Navratna with 9 precious and semi-precious gemstones with fine granulation work along the bead. It finishes with an S-hook clasp. Designed by Deborah Lockhart Phillips. Beads are Indian.
The mythology of the Navaratna is quite auspicious, royal and sacred to most Asian countries, regardless of differences in culture and religion. It brings balance and benefit to the wearer. The stones relate to deities and celestial bodies. The following is a translation:
1. Ruby for Surya (Sun),
2. Pearl for Chandra (Moon),
3. Red Coral for Mangala (Mars),
4. Emerald for Budha (Mercury),
5. Yellow sapphire for Brhaspat
6. Diamond for Shukra (Venus),
7. Blue Sapphire for Shani (Saturn),
8. Hessonite for Rahu (the ascending node of the Moon),
9. Cat's Eye for Ketu (the descending note of the Moon).
The fine jewelry collection is sourced, designed or created by Deborah Lockhart Phillips. Through her international travels, she has cultivated prime resources for fine precious and semi-precious gemstones of unusual cuts in a variety of settings.
