This delicate and unusual foil glass bead necklace dates from the Art Deco era.

The Details...
This necklace features a bar chain - most likely constructed from rolled gold. It is detailed with gold and dark blue foiled glass beads which are accented with millefiori designs. The necklace fastens with a hook and eye and measures 40cm in length.
A Short History...
Glass has been a prevalent feature of costume pieces since the invention of jewellery. An easily accessible material that can be formed into any shape. Glass was heavily used in Art Deco pieces, such as this necklace, because it could be created in a vast array of colours to meet the need for affordable jewellery after the Great Depression and First World War. Foiled glass beads, as can be seen in this necklace, were commonly made in Venice. Their shimmering and beautiful appearance and the craftsmanship required to make them, mean that they are highly collected and sought after.
