About the Item
An Edwardian natural pearl and diamond festoon necklace, consisting of one-thousand-six-hundred-and-fifty-nine pearls accompanied by GCS report stating to be of natural saltwater origin, with diameter from 2.9 to 3.2mm forming eleven rows, with four platinum spacer bars, each bar set with fifteen old European-cut diamonds, the diamonds estimated to weigh 2.8 carats in total, all strung to a platinum and gold clasp, circa 1915, measuring 36.5 x 5cm, gross weight 82.4 grams.
This necklace is in perfect conditon for its age. Unmarked, the bars tested as platinum and the clasp tested as platinum and 18ct gold, later rhodium platted.

This feminine festoon necklace from the Belle Époque era, when jewellery was made to emulate the lightness and delicacy of lace and petite-point embroidery, beautifully exemplifies the elegance and style of this opulent period. It features rows of small lustrous natural pearls, which have been the most coveted of all gemstones for centuries and known as symbols of purity and loyalty, beautifully complimented by the sparkle of old cut diamonds and the gleam of the platinum details holding the curving rows of pearls together. It comes from the collection of Bentley
