A necklace that is both extraordinarily beautiful and extraordinarily rare, this is 1960s-1070s Gump's San Francisco necklace composed of 51 highly translucent, natural and untreated jadeite jade beads in the most luminous, smoky lavender color.
The gleaming beads measures 8.97mm to 11.10mm. and the overall length of the necklace is 22".
As a Certified Professional Gemologist and second-generation jade collector, I can assure you that lavender jade necklaces from Gump's are few and far between.
The iconic Gump's department store in San Francisco became iconic in its midcentury heyday for selling extraordinary, natural and untreated jade jewelry all over the world.
The finest Gump's jade jewelry tends to remain in families, passed from one generation to the next and as a result, is only rarely encountered on the open market.
This is a perfect example of an heirloom-quality jade necklace by Gump's, composed of jadeite beads that have a most unusual, compelling beauty. Not merely, "lavender," but smoky lavender, rendering them almost unbearably beautiful and sophisticated. A 14K yellow gold double-happiness clasp finishes the piece. The rear of the clasp is marked 14K and Gump's.
The extraordinary translucency means these beads will look even more beautiful as the light lowers. As you glide from daylight into evening, these beds will become even more saturated in tone: a seemingly impossible performance that perfectly demonstrates the resulting beauty of jadeite's unique interlocking mineral structure.
A gorgeous, everyday-wearble treasure to be adored for many generations to come. Still on its original string. Jade beads should be restrung every few years and while this string appears still viable, your local jeweler can have this restrung for you for a nominal fee.
