About the Item
This approximately 27" necklace is composed of alternating 8.3mm natural and untreated jadeite jade beads from Burma and small 14K yellow gold beads. No clasp, just luminous, ethereal jade beads interspersed with gleaming winks of warm yellow gold.
This necklace dates to the 1950s, based on the pre-industrial revolution polish of the beads. These beads were carved and polished by hand, using garnet dust and much elbow grease. While modern jade beads are crafted from a more automated process and polished with diamond paste for a mirror finish. I personally love the old-school polish. Especially here, with a necklace like this, where the saturation is light and the nuance is high.
While the gem lab certificate names these beads, "pale green," that doesn't begin to describe the luscious, subtle tones. It's an absolutely gorgeous jade necklace, especially if you have experienced jade beads before and love it already.
The beads are on their original silk and it seems still sturdy. Though you'll want to have your jeweler restring these beads at some point and they can do this for a nominal fee.
This necklace ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is untreated jadeite from Burma (Myanmar).
