Each of the forty 10.5 mm luminous, diaphanous and internally-radiant certified natural and untreated beads that compose this unfathomably rare necklace from the Art Deco period is of the finest possible quality. The polish of each bead is simply magnificent; they slide through your fingers like oiled glass marbles. But it is the color—soft violet, deeper purple, faint spring green, and the color of winter light on snow at four in the afternoon in the Northern hemisphere—that makes one hold one's breath. Did you see the movie Contact with Jodie Foster? After she is transported through a wormhole in the universe and views a distant planet up close for the first time she utters the words, "They should have sent a poet." That is what is needed here to describe with precision the experience of holding, of placing around the neck, of fastening the gold clasp and then of feeling the drape of these heavy, cool beads against the skin. There is no jewel in the world like an extremely fine jade necklace. The nature of the stone itself is such that it transforms as the hands sweep along the dial of the clock, the colors shifting subtly—and sometimes dramatically—as the light changes. It is one necklace in the morning; another in the afternoon and still yet another after the sun has set. The clasp on this necklace is quite the elegant affair. Composed of 14k yellow gold, it features a navette-shaped cabochon of exceedingly fine green jadeite, far finer than most people will ever see or own in their lifetimes. And here on this necklace, it is but a period at the end of a sentence. This 18" necklace weighs 76 grams. It will ship with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that it is 100% natural and untreated in any way. The necklace is on its original silk cord. Many collectors prefer their necklaces as such, though if you intend to wear this necklace regularly, it would be wise to have it restrung by your local jeweler. Jade should always be knotted between each bead.
