About the Item
An early and Rare french necklace by Louis Rousselet from the 1930’s and a typical Art Deco design.
This necklace dates from the earliest days of the work of Louis Rousselet in Paris.
The single row necklace is strung with graduated Rousselet poured glass pearls, poured glass disc pearls, black poured glass beads, clear crystal bi-cone beads and black and white Galalith Puzzle Beads. Suspended from the necklace are three graduated black and white galalith puzzle beads.
Puzzle Beads (interlocking castellated construction) are a signature design used by the French designer Louis Rousselet in the early days of his manufacturing . Galalith was an early pre-Bakelite substance made from Casein and these beads were used in many of Louis Rousselet’s earliest designs.
This lovely unusual Art deco necklace is very wearable being a good length and with a mix of both black and white contrasting colours.
The length of the necklace is 24 inches with a drop of 3 inches. A French screw barrel clasp secures.
The condition is excellent with no deterioration to the galalith elements or loss to the glass pearls
