This lovely example of the Miriam Haskell company's beadwork and elegance dates from the 1950s. Condition Report: Very Good - Some discolouration to the join between two of the small rondelle beads in the necklace and to the reverse of the earrings. This is all consistent with age and only visible upon close inspection. The Details... This milk glass, round bead necklace is interspersed with small milk glass rondelles. The necklace is adjustable in length using and has a gilt metal hook and eye fastening, which uses an open-link chain interspersed with milk glass beads and ending in a milk glass bead charm. The necklace is signed - it has a signature Miriam Haskell oval gilt metal label suspended from it and the hook is stamped 'MIRIAM HASKELL' too. The necklace can be between 33cm and 39cm in length, which is known as a 'Choker' style. The earrings feature a gilt metal flower with a round milk glass bead centre and a larger milk glass bead suspended from it. The earrings are clip on - they feature an adjustable screwback clip produced exclusively for Haskell by the AroSac company, which can be tightened and slackened for the comfort of the wearer, They are signed - 'HASKELL' is stamped onto the back of the clip and 'MIRIAM HASKELL' around the circular panel, which attaches the clip to the earring. The patent number: 3176475 is also stamped onto the clip. The earrings measure 3cm x 1.5cm. A Short History... This parure was most likely designed by Frank Hess for Miriam Haskell in the 1950s. The age of this piece can be determined by its double sided oval signature plaque and the back stringing of the necklace beads onto the fastening mechanism. The beads are also strung onto silk and not nylon. Wear it With... This parure would look beautiful placed on top of a black silk round neck top. Add jeans and a blazer for a casual, yet original, chic look. Additionally, its delicacy and white colourway would make it the perfect accompaniment to a wedding day look.
