The world of colored gemstones is a fascinating one. Having been privileged to sit next to one of Germany's finest stone cutters, I have learned the true meaning of Mother Nature's quest for beauty and individuality. As you slice through the rough material of these stones, the variations of colors generated and actual picture changes which challenges the jewelry designer to create a unique piece, filled with his/hers creative ability. Most moss agates are found as fragments weathered from volcanic rocks. Long used for ornamental purposes, they are obtained chiefly from India, Brazil, Uruguay, central Europe, and the western United States. They contain filaments of different colored minerals, which give it it's natural and different look. The triangular piece used in this pendant shows strong shades of green filament and orange with a slight red color. For this reason, sitting in an 18K Y Gold frame surrounded with diamonds (48-0.80cts), I decided to hang the pendant from a necklace of Mandarin Garnet beads to bring back the orange red color with sharp accents of Tsavorite Garnet beads to accent the green filament in the pendant. Garnet is a stone that comes in various colors, Mandarin Garnet is orange in color, Green Garnet is called Tsavorite, sharp red Garnet is called Rhodolite, and the regular Garnet which is also red is also available. Medicinally speaking, "In addition to the generic healing properties of Agate and Chalcedony, Moss Agate is a stone of new beginnings. Refreshes the soul and enables you to see beauty in all you behold. Moss Agate reduces sensitivity to weather and environmental pollutants. It attracts abundance in wealth and improves self-esteem.
