This statement necklace of enormous jade beads with an 18K yellow gold diamond-studded ball clasp is almost beyond description, but I will try. As a certified professional gemologist and a second-generation jade collector who has had the privilege of providing luxurious jewels to television stars, famous singers, authors and regular, jewelry-loving people from all over this planet, when I first saw this spectacular jade necklace I was flabbergasted. The rural Southern United States is not a hotbed of fine jade jewelry. Or so I believed until I came across this two-foot-long strand of 36 16mm luminous and translucent leaf-green nephrite jade beads hand-strung and knotted on silk and featuring a textured 16mm 18K yellow gold clasp inlaid with a dozen 1.5mm high-quality diamonds totaling approximately .18 carats. I have never in my life encountered a jade necklace of this scale. When it comes to jade, a 9mm bead is very rare indeed. But 16mm? Unheard of. Well, *almost* unheard of. Keep reading. The weight of this luxurious necklace? 237 grams. Otherwise known as half-a-pound. Gems are not typically described in terms of their weight in pounds. Then again, there is nothing "typical" about this bold and breathtaking necklace. The quality of the 100% natural and untreated nephrite jade is high: these are evenly-toned beads with excellent translucency. In bright, direct sunlight the beads are vivid green, even brighter than what you see in the first picture. In dimmer light, the jade darkens and looks like the finest imperial jadeite. Look at the fifth picture where the diamond-ball gold clasp is positioned to the side. Don't these beads look wet to the touch? That is the supremely high-gloss shine of the finest jadeite; only the best quality nephrite jade can accept such a mirror-polish. This is a room-dominating necklace. With this massive collection of the finest jade beads around your neck, you need no other jewelry. This is a commanding piece that draws every eye. This is the nephrite equal to Barbara Hutton's legendary and wordlessly spectacular jadeite necklace, which also featured enormous beads of this size. Except, this necklace features 9 more beads. If this were a jadeite necklace it would sell for tens of millions of dollars. But it is a nephrite necklace. So we can lose a few of those zeros without losing any of that WOW. The necklace has never been worn. The clasp is marked for gold content (18K). The maker is unknown.
