About the Item
This necklace is what the Little Black Dress was made for. Chunky, aquamarine beads nest snugly in two strands to create a dramatic collar of shimmering, natural color, and the large, low-polish 18 karat bugle-shaped hook-and-eye clasp is so beautiful you'll want to wear it for all to see.
The sixty-three beads are all natural, untreated aquamarine graduating from about 12.5mm to 14mm thick. If you look at them from the "hole" side, you'll see that they're shaped like soft triangles with rounded sides (like the diamond "trillion" shape). Seen from the front, they look more like traditional barrels, but they've been faceted with simple, subtle "stripes" from end to end which, without drawing attention to themselves, give these beads a light-playing boost above and beyond their natural crystalline beauty.
The beads are strung on heavyweight thread and finished with a gorgeous 18 karat gold hook and eye clasp.
The inside strand is 17" long and the outside strand is approximately 18" long. Note that the inside circumference of the shorter strand is about 15", so this is a true choker. For comparison purposes, please note that our female mannequin is life-sized; she has the standard proportions of an American size 10.
We can only estimate the weight of the clasp, but the necklace weighs 1,115 carats (223 grams), so assuming the clasp, rings and stringing weigh no more than 43 grams, the aquamarine weight is at least 900 carats -- 14 carats per bead. The actual aquamarine weight is probably closer to 1000 carats.
The clasp is stamped "18K," but there is no maker's mark.

Two fat little mice in 14 karat yellow gold with silver-blue Tahitian pearl bodies hang happily by their tails from a string of sparkling aquamarine beads.
These mice are based on an antique silver charm that we've had in the store for a while. The silver version had a rock crystal bead for a body and no tail, but we thought he would be a great delivery system for pearls.
The pearls are smallish Tahitians and in an unusual silver-blue shade you'd more likely associate with Akoya pearls. They're from our trusted pearl dealer, George Hajjar of Seven Seas Pearls with offices in Tokyo and Los Angeles. Mr. Hajjar deals only with saltwater pearls (Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian), and he only deals directly with the pearl farms, so we always know we're getting the real deal.
The pearls are baroque in shape and measure 9mm and 11.3mm in diameter. They both show great color and luster, plus some natural flaws -- a few dents, lumps and bumps and a circle (on the larger pearl) but no off-color pits or dull spots.
Their long wire tails form loops for hanging from a chain or cord. We think they look great with the aquamarine bead chain...
