About the Item

Georgian convertible set of earrings and necklace. This is a very rare suite composed by a necklace-chain, a pendant-brooch and dangle-earrings. The four jewelry pieces were created in England during the Georgian period, between the 1790 and 1800. This jewelry suite was carefully crafted in rich yellow gold of 18 karats with applications of black enamel and embellished with a very fine selection of thirty-seven graduated Dutch rose cuts diamonds. The pendant-brooch is fitted at the reverse with a hinged pin bar with a security hook to wear as a brooch and a retractable bale on top to wear as a pendant in a chain as pictured. The earrings are fitted with concealed hinged French wires for pierced ears. The Diamonds on This Suite It should be noted that the thirty-seven diamonds displayed in this piece are of exceptional quality for the period. Seeing such pieces from this period with diamonds of this quality is very rare and difficult. Usually, these pieces of jewelry with that kind of precious stones were disassembled during the later Victorian period to re-cuts and create new pieces. This is a great suite of extreme rarity, with excellent craftsmanship and is a great collector's item. They are mounted in open-work flush bezel settings, with 37 graduated old Dutch rose-cut diamonds, with a combined weight of about 11.84 carats. The diamonds are perfectly graduated from 0.07 to 1.50 carats. Diamonds are near colorless and SI clarity. Note: The diamonds displayed in this piece, are the originals from the stated period with absolutely no replacements. Earrings weight: 15.1 Grams, (9.68 Dwt). Pendant weight: 23.8 Grams, (15.26 Dwt). Chain weight: 18.4 Grams, (11.80 Dwt). Length: The chain is 17.5 Inches, (44.45 Cm). Earrings measurements: 42 mm by 26 mm by 10 mm (1.65 x 1.02 x 0.39 Inches). Pendant measurements: 77 mm by 46 mm by 20 mm (3.02 x 1.81 x 0.79 Inches). Hallmarks: No marks as usual and electronically tested for 18 karats gold, .750/.999 Au. The Georgian Jewelry The term Georgian, refers to an era in English history during the reign of Kings George I to King George IV from 1714 - 1840. Like the term Victorian (used for jewelry during Queen Victoria's rule), it is accepted in use as a term that refers to certain styles of jewelry. Pearls, sapphires, rubies and garnets were widely used in Georgian jewelry, often cut in the shape of a cabochon or teardrop. Rubies and pearls were a fashionable combination at the time. Some of our collection of Georgian gemstone rings. Popular cuts for diamonds included 'rose cut', 'old mine cut' and 'table cut. VICTORIAN Bohemian 1880 Gilt Festoon Necklace With 112.90 Ctw In Natural Garnets
Located in Miami, FL
Victorian large festoon necklace with Bohemian red garnets. This is a fabulous and rare antique festoon Bohemian necklace created in England during the late Victorian era, back in the 1880's. The outstanding necklace is pretty impressive in size and was masterfully crafted in gilt metal. It is composed by nineteen links and five dangle drops elements, which are embellished with a fabulous assortment of three hundred-ninety-eight natural intense red garnets. These rose and cabochons cut garnet stones were a Victorian favorite, often used in late-era jewelry designs. The necklace length is little over the sixteen inches and is fitted with a concealed security push box. This is an amazing iconic piece from the period in tremendous grade of preservation with absolutely no gemstones replacements. Surely an eye-catcher and a great conversation piece. Festoon Necklace A festoon necklace, is a design motif of a garland or string of flowers, leaves or ribbons. A festoon is a type of necklace that contains several drapes or swags of beads, chains, metal extensions, or other parts as the core elements of the design. Was very popular in the 18th and 19th century and even today. The Victorian Jewelry This era is one of the most influenced and influential periods of antique jewelry. This period is defined by the British monarch, in this case, Alexandrina Victoria, the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, as well as the Empress of India, years 1837-1901. There are 3 sub-periods within this era. First, the early, Romantic period, which is soaked in traditions, natural motifs in gold and silver, clear stones only being worn during the day and colored gems by night. The second being the Grand or mourning period, which coincides with the death of Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert the consort, who died in December of 1861. This period included large, dark, somber, dramatic jewelry, with a lot of black onyx, jet wood, amethyst, garnet and gold. This lasted until 1880's, when the aesthetic period of jewelry began. The Late or third stage of the Victorian period, use more complex and feminine motifs, returning to the natural, including many floral and celestial designs, with more decadent gemstones, lasting until the turn of the century. The Victorian era of jewelry includes many movements found in other countries, including revivals such as the Etruscan the Roman and the Egyptian as well as the Art Nouveau, Liberty style and Arts and Crafts design movements which lead into the beginning of the twentieth century. Country: Europe, England. Period: Victorian, 1870-1890.
