About the Item
This 14k gold signed Ed Wiener necklace has a sculptural form that graces the collarbone in an elegant wave. At the center of the necklace, a pearl is nestled into a small chevron that places it perfectly along the clavicle. It is hinged with tiny ball details and seamlessly connects with a shepherd hook. The modernist design of the necklace exemplifies Ed Wiener’s ability to highlight form and function, as its lines gracefully correspond to the bone structure of the neck. The result is a gorgeous collar necklace that drapes around the neck with serene beauty.
Ed Wiener was a Modernist jeweler who started his career in 1940’s Greenwich Village and was active until the late 1980’s. He was known for his modernist forms, abstract expressionism, and Bauhaus influences. He worked mostly in silver until he became drawn to gold after an influential trip to India and France in the 1960’s. Because this necklace is constructed in gold, it probably dates to the late 1960’s or 1970’s.
The necklace has a circumference of 14 5/8”. Its width undulates and is 1/4” at its widest points. The pearl is 8.1 mm. The piece weighs 25.3 grams. This is a delicate piece, ideal for a smaller neck.
