A beautiful Antique Silver Moonstone Necklace dating to around the 1900s and the Edwardian era - also referred to as the Arts Crafts period. Moonstone necklaces were popular during the Arts and Crafts period due to a combination of factors: the movement's emphasis on natural beauty, the use of natural materials, and the mystical associations of moonstone. Moonstones, with their unique adularescence or, shimmering effect, were seen as naturally beautiful and aligned with the movement's passion for handcrafted, organic designs. The moonstones in this particular example really do carry a beautiful blue colour - superior to the white, paler variety in later pieces. The adularescence is wonderful - the light seemingly dancing beneath the surface of the stone. Aptly named, moonstones were believed to have spiritual properties, including enhancing intuition, promoting love, and fostering balance - in-keeping with the values of the Arts Crafts movement.
