A beautifully preserved early 20th-century rosary by the esteemed Newark jewelry house Sloan
Co., celebrated for their precision goldwork during the golden era of American jewelry manufacturing. Crafted entirely in solid 14k gold and weighing an impressive 26.4 grams, this rosary shows the finely executed workmanship that defined Sloan
Co.’s reputation. The cable chain links are substantial, sturdy, and perfectly formed— hallmarks of high-end early-century Newark craftsmanship and ideal for daily wear if desired.
The rosary features alternating 7mm and 5.5mm gold beads, each well-formed and richly polished, with only two beads showing a single small dent—remarkable condition for a devotional object over a century old. The crucifix measures a full 2 inches and displays beautifully crisp modeling of Christ against a matte-finished Latin cross. The reverse bears hand-engraved personalization, including the Roman date MCMVIII, adding provenance and historic devotional significance.
With an overall length of approximately 18.5 inches and a wearable loop length of about 24 inches, the rosary drapes elegantly when worn as a necklace while remaining fully functional as a devotional piece. Its weight, craftsmanship, and maker set it apart from common examples of the period, making it a truly exceptional find for collectors of antique American religious jewelry.
