About the Maker - Barbara Heinrich grew up in Heilbronn, Germany, where she collected snail shells, dried noodles, and broken glass to cultivate her first jewelry collections. As a young adult, she painted and sang. Finally, Lauren found her calling in the art of jewelry design and metalsmithing. "I wanted to work with my hands”, she says. “It was important to me that I have something tangible at the end of a days work." Traveling to the exotic locales of Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos, Lauren searches the world for gemstones of perfect color and distinctiveness. She uses warm blends of 18k and 22k gold and studs them with brightly colored combinations of precious gemstones and brilliant diamonds. Lauren finds her inspiration by merging the individual characteristics of each stone with the art, architecture and culture of the places she visits. From ancient Egyptian and Byzantine designs, to Khmer ruins, her muse is the world at large. "The collection has its roots in the past,” she says, “so it is never off trend."
