An Egyptian revival Plique à Jour enamel Orus necklace Very beautiful and colorful piece made with Egyptian revival motifs from the ancient kingdom of the Pharaohs. The main focus part is the figure of a falcon with open wings in representation of the Egyptian god Horus. The necklace has been carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished and brushed finishes and is accented with applications of inlaid glass enamel. The wings are worked out with the difficult enameling technique of Plique à Jour. It is fitted with a push boxed security lock, with a hinged figure 8 for extra safety. Horus Horus is the god of the sky, of war and protector of kingship according to the ancient Egyptian religion, mostly depicted in the form of a falcon, the son of Isis and Osiris was conceived after the rebirth of the father whom he avenged and succeeded; he is the god to whom every ruling pharaoh identified himself. Horus is the god of the sun. He was the symbol of good and faith. His father was Osiris who was the god as well for the ancient Egyptians even after his death as mentioned in the book of the dead. Coral: Mounted in bezel settings, with 3 round cabochons cuts of natural red coral, with a weight of about 2 carats Coral: Mounted in cords settings, with 12 round beads cuts of 4 mm carved from natural red coral, with a weight of about 4.80 carats. Weight: 36.20 Grams, (23.21 Dwt). Length Size: 17 Inches, (43 Cm). Measurements: The open-wings eagle is 46 mm by 50 mm (1.81 x 1.97 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay of the gold and signed, "AD10 .750 GB". Plique à jour This is a French term that means, "letting in daylight". Is a very difficult vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass and is considered very challenging technically: high time consumption (up to 4 months per item), with a high failure rate. The technique is similar to that of cloisonné, but using a temporary backing that after firing is dissolved by acid or rubbed away. A different technique relies solely on surface tension, for smaller areas. In Japan the technique is known as shotai-jippo (shotai shippo), and is found from the 19th century on. Collateral: This necklace is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this necklace is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold.
