About the Item
This 4.32-carat Colombian emerald necklace was purchased by a small-town jeweler in the 1980s. He then placed it in his safe and forgot about it for the next few decades. So although it dates to approximately 1982, it has never been worn and is in brand-new condition.
The 10 emeralds are of excellent quality with the bluish-green tone so highly prized in Colombian emeralds; considered the finest emeralds in the world. These stones possess an even, medium tone and excellent clarity. The stones range in size from 6.10mm x 4.64mm x 3.76mm to 3.78mm x 3.36mm x 2.66 and are a combination of emerald and square cuts.
The sculptural mounting is rich 18K yellow gold and was made entirely by hand. Even the delicate anchor-link chain is entirely handmade. It's quite impressive and also unusual. Why make a delicate anchor chain when any length of chain can be purchased from a jewelry supply company? The answer is: because then the piece would be compromised, it would not be fully unique; it would not be a work of art.
The gems are set within expressive curved forms that resemble a winding river as seen from high above, a crescent moon, the rocker portion of a rocking chair. Two of the forms are beveled, which creates deep shadows and adds a powerful dimensionality to the piece. The bottom emerald dangles freely from the main structure. The necklace is 19.5" in length. The pendant portion of the necklace measures 52.28mm x 31.30mm.
This beautiful and pristine emerald necklace ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the emeralds are of Colombian origin. The emeralds were clarity enhanced with oil -often Cedar oil- a standard practice.
