About the Item
Lovely soft gray rare lava beads mined from the ruins of Pompeii in Italy. Pineapples were a symbol of luxury in the 1700's and were brought to Europe from Asia in the 1600's. Lava jewelry was made from the lava of Mt. Vesuvius, probably as souvenir jewelry for travelers on the Grand Tour. Each beads is graduated showing that each bead was crafted by hand. The smallest beads are at the clasp and they gradually getting larger until the center bead which is ½ inch in diameter. The necklace is 17 inches long and has a 15K clasp.
