About the Item
Frederick Davis (1880 - 1961), while not the household name of William Spratling, actually preceded him in terms of bringing Mexican design to the fore.
Davis worked in Mexico City designing for more than 20 years for Sanborn's, the department store where tourists, among other things, could purchase jewelry and antiques.
This necklace consists of seven slightly convex triangles with an oval cabochon amethyst set in each. The stones are richly colored. The triangles are one inch long. Between these elements are slightly concave triangles filling out the entire design.
The necklace measures 18 inches in length. It is well marked with Davis's initials stamp and 925, the sterling standard.
The necklace is in excellent condition. It was made in the 1930's.
The work of Fred Davis is illustrated in books written by Penny Morrill and are included in the Latin American collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
