About the Item
French Edwardian enameled chain.
Stunning necklace chain, created in Paris France during the Edwardian period, back in the 1905. This beautiful chain has been carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. The chain is composed by eighteen cylindrical links which are embellished with engine turned Guilloché design and topped with bluish glass enamel. In addition is accented with fifty-four gray pearls. It is fitted with security lock.
Pearl: Mounted, with 54 semi round gray pearls of 2 mm.
Weight: 14.60 Grams, (9.46 Dwt).
Length: 20 Inches, (50.8 Cm).
Measurements: Each cylinder link is 19 mm by 2.5 mm (0.75 x 0.10 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with the mark for the assay and warranty of the 18 karats gold.
The Edwardian era
Like the Georgian and Victorian eras before it, derives its name from the reign of the English King, Edward VII (1901-1910). Edwardian jewelry is known for representing femininity while incorporating a lot of the color white. Think diamonds, pearls and white metals like platinum and white gold. Diamonds often had an Old Mine or European cut and sapphires were a popular choice for a pop of color. They tended to be made from platinum and diamonds – the more, the merrier – and used fashionable, intricate techniques such as filigree and millegrain. Edwardian rings are works of art and best worn alone or alongside a simple wedding band. Mille-graining, a new decorative technique made possible by the use of platinum, is featured often on Edwardian jewelry. Its border of delicate balls and ridges surrounding a gemstone or on the knife sharp edges of a design served to give jewelry a softer, lighter look.
Guilloché
This technique is used in fine jewelry to enhance the appearance of brooches, rings and pendants. Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue.
Collateral: This necklace is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box.
Condition: The overall condition of this ring is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. The pearls and the enamels are secured in the settings. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and the authenticity.
