About the Item
This Rare and Exceptionally Stunning necklace was made for Christian Dior in the late 1940’s, early 1950’s.
We believe this necklace to have been made by Roger Jean Pierre at the time he was working for Francis Winter.
After World War II, specifically between 1947 and 1958, Roger was director of Maison Francis Winter where he collaborated on jewellery and accessories for Dior, Balenciaga, Gres, Balmain and Lelong. In each of these years, he designed as many as 2500 models for production. These were first shown to haute couturiers and the remaining models were shown to smaller couturiers and department stores.
These early pieces were not signed, being commissioned to be made for Dior to accompany a particular couture outfit, or for an individual client.
The necklace consists of a row of large fleur de lys prong set, oval glass, turquoise matrix cabochons, each surmounted with a small sapphire blue Gripoix Glass prong set cabochon and underneath a drop of a brilliant exceptional quality clear paste stones.
Between each turquoise cabochon are three brilliant quality clear paste stones with an attached drop of a small Gripoix sapphire glass blue cabochon and oval turquoise matrix cabochon.
All stones are set in open backed deep crown settings. The use of Fleur de Lys and deep Crown settings were typically used in many of Roger Jean Pierre pieces and the accompanying small deep blue Gripoix glass cabochons are low often see.
A box clasp secures the necklace.
Length of 15 inches and 1.3/4 inch deep.
In very good vintage condition.
