About the Item
A luminous survivor from the late Georgian era (circa 1820), this extraordinary necklace captures the romance and refinement of a bygone age. Meticulously crafted, it features 54 oval flat-cut garnets, each foil-backed and set in closed 14 karat bloomed gold bezels—a signature technique of the period designed to enhance the gemstone’s depth and inner fire.
The garnets display rich, glowing tones that shift with the light, evoking the opulence of early 19th-century English jewelry. Their closed-back settings remain beautifully preserved, and the bloomed gold finish adds an elegant warmth to the piece.
Measuring 16 inches in length, the necklace rests gracefully at the collarbone and is secured with a discreet clasp in keeping with its original construction. It is in overall good antique condition, with a single surface-reaching inclusion adding to its storied character. Previous repairs to the reverse have been professionally and sensitively executed, preserving both the structural integrity and visual harmony of the necklace.
The metal content of this necklace was verified using XRF (x-ray analysis) and jeweler's acids.
