When you've been a goldsmith for almost fifty years, you accumulate stuff. Eytan Brandes has a lot of chain segments since shortening chains is a common repair. Usually these segments can be used to make earrings, or they can be melted, or they can be converted to safety chains for bracelets. But the eight links of heavy cable chain that make up the centerpiece of our new choker are so chunky, solid and well-made that they deserve to be the Main Event. These links came from a gorgeous Italian necklace weighing over 100 grams that Eytan shortened for a customer back in the 1990s. He's too much of a jeweler to melt such perfect links, but it took thirty years to come up with a good use for them. The flat curb links are newer (early 2020's) and are the result of a bracelet project where the customer gave us incorrect measurements and we were left with two 6.5" segments (long story), but this turned out to be kismet because we think the flat curb links are the perfect delivery system for the far more robust cable links. The curb links lie flat and smooth and the cable links create a subtle, substantial contrast. Because we look at this as a necklace more than a chain, Eytan gave it a proper closure -- a restored vintage 14 karat gold box clasp -- rather than a lobster clasp or a spring ring. This necklace is just a skoosh over 16" long. If you would like it shortened, please let us know and Eytan will remove links to your desired length at no charge. Note that each curb link adds about 3/8" in length. The clasp is stamped 14K. The links are all guaranteed to be 14 karat gold.
