About the Item

Masterfully crafted glass necklace in dreamy hues of aqua, clear with inserted gold leaves. Pate de Verre Collection, Designed by a former artisan of the Atelier de GRIPOIX in the savoir faire used for all the Chanel pieces they executed. All Gripoix glass jewelry is made by hand. It was in 1868 when it was first produced, and artisans in France are still making glass jewelry components now using the same techniques. Beads, cabochons, coated pearls, and other glass components like these will be found in jewelry branded Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Isabel Canovas, and Pierre Cardin along with other European couture houses. It can take many man-hours to produce a single design. When glass is “poured” directly into a setting, it is sometimes evident when examining the back. Other elements like cabochon stones and beads made using other techniques have their own nuances from component to component since they are handmade. As It is expensive to use these types of French glass crafted by hand it makes these items more exclusive and collectible. This is a very specific process and few artists can create this nowadays. 1970s Hand-Strung Sea Foam Ombre Lucite Vintage Crystal Necklace
Located in Maywood, NJ
The start of plastic jewellery was seen in the middle of the 19th century and it became very popular in the 1920's and 30's. Celluloid was the first quality of plastics which was used, then followed Bakelite and Catalin. The invention of Bakelite took place in 1909. Sometime later Catalin was produced. Catalin was easy for mass production and at the same time affordable. Du Pont is the pioneer in the field of Lucite and made it popular in the 1930’s as an alternative to Bakelite which was an expensive grade of plastic. Because of its versatility it became a popular choice for costume jewellery and became even more popular in 1950s for its Jelly Belly Jewellery...
