Superb, rare natural translucent faceted Baltic amber necklace of impressive size, gem quality and color reminiscent of fine rich cognac. This necklace has been tested for natural amber and has a high degree of electrical attraction. The reddish orange, vermillion color is scarcely seen in natural amber necklaces of this scale. Amber has long been associated with the power of attraction and excellent communication, as is the color red- making this necklace doubly desirable.

Provenance: Estate of a US Ambassador
Composed of 67 hand faceted graduated amber beads measuring 31mm to 13mm, well matched, translucent, some with natural inclusions. Slightly varying in shape and faceting consistent with being hand made and soft from handling over time. Very minor abrasions observed under magnification. A necklace of this size and quality would most assuredly have been created for a member of the aristocracy.
A very similar necklace is illustrated in Louis Sherr Dubin's The History of Beads, from 30,000 BC to the Present, page 295 with the description: Faceted Baltic amber (succinite) said to have belonged to a member of the Russian imperial court. Antique Victorian 2.65 Carat Tourmaline and Peridot Yellow Gold Necklace

A stunning antique Victorian 2.65 carat tourmaline and 0.95 carat peridot, 14 and 15 karat yellow gold necklace; part of our diverse antique jewelry and estate jewelry collections.
This stunning, fine and impressive antique gemstone necklace has been crafted in 14k yellow gold with a 15k yellow gold chain.
The symmetrical, pierced decorated and scrolling design is ornamented with a four individually bezel set tourmalines in various colours; two oval cut pink tourmalines, and two cushion cut tourmalines in varying shades of green.
A 0.95Ct cushion cut peridot is collet set to the upper border of the intertwined design.
The feature frame suspends from a four claw set cushion cut green tourmaline via two 15k yellow gold 3.5cm belcher style chains to either side of the design.
The claw set tourmaline and feature frame suspend and articulate from a 15k yellow gold 16" fine belcher chain, securing to the reverse with a cylindrical push fit clasp.

Antique Victorian large faux jet moulded pendant, hung on black ribbon with a pinchbeck dog clip. On the front is a profile of Queen Victoria in relief with a decorative edging, and the back is inscribed 'May Saints Embrace Thee with a Love like Mine 1892'.
