About the Item
A rare antique Victorian Snake Necklace with a Heart Locket Pendant hanging from its mouth. The snake necklace dating to circa 1840. The snake head and the suspending heart are set with colored stones. The eyes are round cabochon Garnets of a wonderful color. The necklace is 18 K yellow Gold. The gold work on the snake is dramatic and very special. The gold around the eyes, on the head, and around the heart is in an acanthus leaf motif creating a magical nature inspired jewel. The snake link chain is just gorgeous and evokes the body of the snake beautifully.
The necklace is 36 cm long. It is in superb condition.
In the Victorian era the snake was the symbol of eternal love. It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth, wisdom and love.
The necklace weighs 28.41 grams.
