About the Item
This is an antique 19th century mourning necklace, created with a beautiful and large 14 karat gold clasp. The black jet beads are round-shaped and have a diameter of approximately 12 millimeters. Each bead has a little raised edge in the center. The ornate gold clasp is crafted with beautiful filigree and at the four corners winged angels are set. Behind the glass plate, an image of a sailing boat occurs, this is made of hair.
These types of jewels represent a varied and rich historical Dutch cultural heritage, worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands when in mourning. It was part of the regional mourning costume. The necklace is in very good condition.
The clasp is made between 1874 and 1923 by the Rozendaal brothers in Hoorn, The Netherlands.
The necklace is in very good condition and of high quality. Marked and tested as 14 karat gold.
