About the Item
This necklace was created in 1800 ca. It is made out of 18 karat yellow and red gold. Three oval cameos show portrait busts in profile, the largest one in the center is of a woman, possibly the goddess Hera. The cameo to the left shows the young Hercules with his club. The cameo to the right shows an unidentified
female bust. All cameos are mounted in elaborate gold mounts. Each mount has an outer frame decorated with sky blue enamel stripes applied vertically on gold. Then follows a thin gold frame decorated with a chiselled grooved ornament. Then we see a frame made out of a spiral of thin ornate gold stripe. The cameos are joined by double gold links in the shape of laurel leaves.
The necklace is fitted with two fastening links made out red gold. The links are marked with hallmarks. The necklace comes in a fitted velvet box which is however not a box from the period.
The height indicated refers to the largest cameo.
