This versatile, sexy choker features two strands (16" and 15.5") of alternating Akoya cultured saltwater pearls and tiny cube-shaped sapphire beads. When your feeling fancy-shmancy, you can show off the clasp, a vintage rosette set with an old cut white diamond and six dark blue sapphires. The pearls are from our trust pearl dealer, George Hajjar of Seven Seas Pearls with offices in Los Angeles and Japan. George only deals in saltwater pearls -- Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian -- and he deals directly with pearl farms, so we always know we're getting the real thing. These pearls are 6mm and have nice luster but they're off-round shapes with some natural surface flaws. We're putting their best little pearl feet forward by pairing them with natural 2.5mm sapphire beads that show plenty of variance from dark blue to smoky white. Together, the look is much more contemporary and unexpected than a plain strand of pearls. The 14 karat gold box clasp is a vintage component harvested from some long ago something-or-other. It is set with a nice center diamond (around 0.15 carats) and six small sapphires (approximately 0.18 carats total). Based on the cuts of the diamond (brilliant, but high crown, small table, thick girdle) and the six tiny sapphires (uneven and minimal), we think this clasp is probably around 80 years old. The diamond is of better quality than we customarily see in a clasp, where manufacturers typically use SI2 and lower grade diamonds. Eytan rates this diamond I-J color and VS2 or better clarity. Based on the age of the clasp (and the fact we've had it in the store for umpteen years), we can safely guarantee this stone is earth-mined. The sapphires also appear to be natural (the color variances argue against synthetics, though synthetics were frequently used in clasps).
