Verso: master’s mark of the goldsmith with oak leaves ‘HM’ and crest with anchor, dated with ‘1944’

Dimensions (without chain) 67 mm x 38.5 mm. Total weight 57 grams.

Provenance: From the former family property of the Max Esser family
This unique necklace designed by the famous German sculptor Max Esser is from 1944. The chain of 34 small gold tubes attaches by tulip-shaped connectors on the round pendant eye, in which rosette a colorless tourmaline of c. 3.5 carat is set. Below is a square pendant with rounded corners attached by small movable hinges. In the middle of the pendant sits a large cairngorm in emerald cut of approx. 30 carat. Particularly beautiful are the vernally ornaments, that were very finely worked out to the smallest detail. A chirping bird, an adult butterfly, a curious squirrel, and a ripe vine adorn the golden frame of the gemstone. This unique piece comes from the workshop of Prof. Hans Markl and hence directly from the former family property of the Max Esser family.
Condition:
At the backside of the necklace the owners mark of Hans Markl and a dating sign ‘1944’ can be seen. The necklace is in very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. The overall length measures about 30 cm and the weight is about 57 grams. In the brown, original leather box are three postcards placed, where pictures of the chain can be seen. Two of these postcards are signed with black pen ‘H. Markl’ and dated with ‘1944’, in front of it stands the abbreviation ‘Bln.’ for Berlin. In the box there are also two slides from the company ‘MEDIA COLOR’.
