About the Item
Antique Scottish jewelry is known for its exceptional quality, distinctive design and patronage by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The best pieces were crafted in 14K and 15K gold with gems quarried from local sources which included exotic varieties of agate, bloodstone, carnelian, malachite and granite. This beautiful, large cross exemplifies the best of its kind- elegant greenish-gray Aberdeen granite beveled panels of arrow motif are inset in a finely detailed 14K yellow gold cross with a fine engraved bale featuring a classic Scottish Triquetra, symbolizing the Holy Trinity. The cross itself is emblematic of the Holy Trinity as there are three crosses in the design- one in the center, one in the base arm and the cross body.
This piece dates to the second half of the 19th century and is in remarkably wonderful condition - the granite panels are original and intact. A pin stem fitting at the back allows for wear on a lapel if desired.
