About the Item
This 18k gold pendant features the Hindu goddess Lakshmi seated in the lotus position surrounded by a halo of diamonds. Designed by Orly Marcel, the image is beautifully detailed with an intricate face, a flowing vessel of water, and the four arms of the goddess. The image is even more detailed when looked at under a loop, where its tiny intricacies are even more evident. Lakshmi is the goddess of fortune and prosperity, and she is often depicted on a lotus flower, which symbolizes purity, beauty, and spiritual enlightenment. A beaded border makes a pretty outline around the pendant, which is then surrounded by bezel set diamonds—an outline that appears almost floral. The medallion attaches to a bail that contains a four-petal flower with a diamond set into each of the petals. The Lakshmi image has a high polish, while the back of the pendant has a beautiful matte surface.
Orly Marcel grew up in Tel Aviv and the United States, and spent time in India where she studied yoga and developed a love for Eastern philosophy. Her work is “created with intention and imbued with meaning, and its sense of balance and proportion evoke a feeling of calm and serenity.”
The pendant contains 34 1 mm natural diamonds, for a TCW of 1/3 carat.
The medallion measures 7/8” x 3/4”, plus a decorative bail that is 10 x 6.5 mm. The bail opens to fit over a chain and snaps shut with a click. It has a security clasp for added protection. The piece weighs 6.46 grams. Marked on the back with 18k and O.M.
