Understated and elegant, and yet 600-odd years in the making, this rose gold and silver, oval-shaped pendant is produced using an ancient Albanian technique that was brought to Palermo in the fifteenth century. In this piece, carefully selected rose-cut diamonds, totalling 2.65-carats, are hand-chiselled into the slightly domed .925 silver top of the pendant, which is about 20 millimetres across and 27 millimetres long. The gold chain is 50 centimetres long. This collection represents an art form that reflects the rich history of Sicily. In the fifteenth century, Albanian immigrants arrived in Palermo, bringing with them a unique method of jewellery-making which has become known as “cesellato”. Their descendants preserved the method over the next 600-odd years, merging it with new materials, fashions and techniques which arrived following each new invasion of the southern Italian island.
