About the Item
Issued in 1973, this large and heavy gold coin features a left-facing profile of Shah Mohammad Rez Pahlavi.
Below the portrait is the Persian date of 1358 (same as western 1973).
The text over the Shah's head translates as "Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, King of Kings of Iran."
On the back is the Pahlavi coat of arms with the crown, lion and oak leaves. The text below the lion literally translates to "five sides," which is presumably a reference to the coin's denomination of five Pahlavis.

The coin is set in an unfussy sealed channel with a triangular bale. The bale will accommodate chains up to 5mm (as long as the clasp can fit through). The frame is not stamped, so we had it assayed and, oddly, it turns out to be 15.2K (63.33% pure). Go figure.
With the frame, the total length of the pendant is 55mm (2.2"). The frame is 3.6mm thick and 41mm wide.
This pendant comes with the 18" black leather cord shown in the photos. It's 2.7mm thick and has a 14 karat gold lobster clasp.

* When we were doing our research on this coin, we found some ambiguity about the purity of this coin. Some sources say it's 90% pure (which is the same as 21.6K). Some say it's 22K (which is the same as 91.67%). Some even say it's BOTH 22K and 90%, which is obviously not possible. With gold selling at such teeth-chatteringly high prices, we felt it was important to be precise, so we had the coin assayed. It's 22K - 91.67% pure.

Eytan Brandes cast one of his old silver coins in 22 karat gold. It shows a beardless youth, possibly an early emperor (most of them wore beards after 117AD), as suggested by the diadem tied at the back of his neck.
No clue about the image on the back. With the lettering oriented north (and upside down), you can maybe see the neck of a horned animal, but that might just be us seeing things in a Rorschach test.
To frame this little homage to ancient commerce, Eytan crafted a platinum frame with four prongs on each side.
The pyrite chain, which we made specifically for this pendant, has a 14 karat white gold lobster closure.*
