About the Item
Rarest of all the golds, 24 karat gold is valued by all discerning investors. With it's unmistakable warm yellow color accented with silver back this pendant / charm features a micro mosaic central pattern. Micro mosaic is created from tiny fragments of glass, called tesserae which are made from an opaque vitreous glass or enamel called smalto. The smalto is pulled into rods or threads, called filati (spun enamel),that is left to cool then cut into hundreds of minute cubes and arranged to create a pattern, portrait, or landscape. It is an extremely laborious and painstaking art form which the mosaicist uses tweezers to apply hundreds, sometimes thousands, of tiny tesserae to create incredibly detailed works of art.
