About the Item

An iconic ancient Greek Athenian owl coin from 475-425 BC is held in a handmade hammered 18K gold bezel surrounded by a "wire and jawan" rim with four 2.2 mm VS1 diamond accents in this signature Steven Battelle pendant design. This authentic, silver coin from Athens, Attica, is a tetradrachm (4 drachms) which was the primary coinage in much of the ancient world during that age. The reverse of this coin (the side shown) is the owl (Athene noctua) traditionally representing or accompanying Athena, the virgin goddess of wisdom. Because of such association, the "owl of Athena" is a symbol of knowledge, wisdom, and erudition throughout the Western world. The "AOE" visible in Greek letters stands for "of the Athenians". The opposite side of the coin depicts Athena in Corinthian helmet. As the coins were hand struck, the sides do not line up. The 18K handmade hammered chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. We discount our chains 20% when orders with a pendant. This pendant is sent with a lifetime laminated coin certificate of authenticity. A high-grade and beautiful AUTHENTIC symbol of Athena and ancient Greece!
