About the Item

An authentic small silver "hemidrachm" coin from Ephesus (an ancient Greek colony now located in Southern Turkey) 500-420 BC depicts a bee with the initials "E" and Theta to the sides. Ephesus was one of the primary cities of the region throughout ancient times, continuing through the Romans. The ruins there are often visited today. The bee and the deer were sacred to Artemis, the patron goddess of Ephesus. Artemis is the Olympian goddess of the hunt, the moon, and chastity. In time, she also became associated with childbirth and nature. The coin is set in a Steven Battelle designed handmade double twist wire framed bezel with a 1.8 mm VS1 diamond below in similar motif. Please note the size of this pendant relative to the dime. It is not big. It is sent with a laminated lifetime coin certificate of authenticity. The 18K handmade hammered chain shown is not included but can be ordered additionally. It comes in 18”, 20”, and 24” lengths. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant.
