Exquisite and unique Andrew Clunn carved red coral and 18K yellow gold Medusa statement pendant/brooch
Provenance: Estate of a world renown model, interior designer, art collector and philanthropist
From classical Greek Mythology to modern cultural icon, Medusa has been of great inspiration in the world of art. Leonardo da Vinci, Benvenuto Cellini, Caravaggio, Rubens, Bernini, Klee, Picasso and Rodin were among the artists who have portrayed the mesmerizing Gorgon. Gianni Versace used the Medusa visage as logo for his fashion empire.
Andrew Clunn's interpretation sets the superbly detailed red coral carving in a substantial 18K yellow gold setting with golden tresses on the left, central intertwined snakes and wings with classical drapery on the right. The scale, complexity of design and workmanship point to this being a one of a kind commission. This piece was created to be worn as a both a brooch and a pendant.

Andrew Clunn (1928-2016) began his career as a jeweler with an apprenticeship at David Webb in 1963. In short twelve years, he rose to second in command at David Webb. His designs attracted important clients such as Elizabeth Taylor, Diana Vreeland and the Duchess of Windsor. In 1980, Clunn opened his own atelier on Madison Avenue in New York City focusing on unique, distinctive designs for stellar clientelle.
