About the Item
This is a magnificent Museum Quality Austro-Hungarian Ruby, Diamond, Enamel and Pearl Pendant Necklace with a Cupid Archer and his Bow and Arrow with a fabulous Winged Angel at the top. The pendant is in the Renaissance Revival style and dates to circa 1870. The pendant is one of the most beautiful Renaissance Revival jewels we have seen and is the work of a master artisan. The cupid archer with his bow and arrow is fully three dimensional. He stands on a rock and fires into the heavens. Behind him is the royal blue sky with gold stars all in enamel. Atop the pendant is a gorgeous Winged Angel. The angel has a beautiful face in white enamel with raised wings adorned with blue and green enamel. The angel wears a necklace adorned with a Rose Cut Diamond. The archer cupid is set atop a row of five beautiful oval faceted Rubies of a wonderful pink color. The pendant is further adorned with three pendant natural pearls. The quality of the gorgeous early jewel is further evidenced by the beautiful enamel work on the reverse of the pendant.
The pendant is in the Renaissance Revival style.
The overall effect of the rubies and diamond, the extraordinary three dimensional cupid and angel, the stunning enamel work and the pendant pearls create an early antique jewel that is truly magical. The pendant dates to circa 1850-1890.
The pendant comes from the collection of a retired Master Jeweler from Cartier Paris. The jeweler created many of Cartier's iconic jewels during his years with Cartier. His knowledge of gems and antique jewels and his exquisite curatorial sense are reflected in his extraordinary collection of antique jewelry.
The pendant is 2 1/4 inches (6cm) tall, and 1 1/4 inches (35mm) wide.
The pendant is silver.
