About the Item
Fine antique amethyst, seed pearl and 14K yellow gold pendant or brooch with blue and white 'forget-me-knot' enamel flowers and leaves - featuring a round bezel set amethyst to the center (approx. 2.71 total carat weight - 10 mm. diameter x 6 mm. deep) - fine hand hammered detail work around the enamel flowers - five seed pearls (approx. 1.5 mm. each) set within the undulating gold frame - original 14K gold loop, pin, hinge and c catch to the back - indistinct hallmarks to the clasp - acid tested for gold purity - United States - circa 1900.
Excellent antique condition - minor restoration to the enamel - no loss - no damage - minimal signs of age and use - ready to wear.

This yellow gold Holbeinesque pendant is characterized by a central Siberian amethyst of approximately 10 carats, surrounded by rose cut diamonds and polychrome cloisonné enamels, embellished with further rose cut diamonds, while the external profiling of the pendant is characterized by minute natural pearls; the lower part, however, is completed by a square-shaped pendant in which the diamonds and cloisonné enamels return. The back of the pendant, however, still deserves attention as it is finely engraved with an arabesque motif which gives further preciousness to the object. The Holbein style, of which this pendant is an example, is inspired by the original jewellery designs of the German painter Hans Holbein the Younger (1497 – 1543), court painter to King Henry VII...
