Exquisite antique Edwardian period S.J. Phillips heart shaped piercework 2.8 TCW diamond, demantoid garnet 18K and 14K yellow gold, silver-topped gold locket/vinaigrette pendant necklace
Early 20th Century
Heart shaped bombe form, rare pierced chevron design, hinged glazed back with two detachable bales of diamond set bow motif and diamond and demantoid garnet, on a period 18K white gold chain. The two bales may be worn together or separately with the heart locket, allowing for three variations. The clasp of the chain with lovely diamond detail.
Original antique blue velvet silk lined S.J. Phillips presentation box. The venerable firm of S.J. Phillips has been in business since 1869. Notable clients included members of the Rothschild, Pierpont Morgan and William Randolph Hearst families, Margaret Thatcher and Queen Mary.
Diamonds: Old Mine and Rose cut, G-H, VS-SI, approximately 2.8 TCW

Antique vinaigrettes required a high level of detailed design as they were miniature containers for sweet-smelling perfumes and aromatic oils in solid form or saturated within a small sponge to be placed within the vinagrette. An early form of aromatherapy, they allowed the wearer to carry the scent with them during the course of the day and into the evening.
