About the Item

We are pleased to present a very old pendant-amulet crafted from Hetian jade, featuring a carved depiction of a lotus on water with hieroglyphs on one side and a lotus with hieroglyphs on each petal of the lotus on water on the other side. It dates back to the late Qing Dynasty (late 19th to early 20th century). Jade is a precious stone symbolizing prosperity, protection, and longevity. The combination of a jade lotus with hieroglyphs creates a talisman with deep symbolic meaning. The hieroglyphs on a jade lotus flower most likely represent the symbolic meanings associated with the lotus itself—such as purity, enlightenment, spiritual growth, wisdom, and transformation. They are also symbols of good fortune and prosperity. The exact meaning, however, depends on the specific hieroglyph used, as the lotus is a universal symbol revered across various cultures. In China, a lotus carved from jade symbolizes purity, spiritual enlightenment, longevity, happiness, and nobility. Jade has long been prized for its virtuous qualities, while the lotus represents pure beauty rising from muddy waters. Together, they emphasize moral fortitude and spiritual understanding, making this combination a powerful symbol in Feng Shui for attracting harmony and positive energy. Pendant specifications: Height: 60 mm (2.4") Width: 40 mm (1.6") Thickness: 8 mm (0.3") Weight: 52 grams (1.8 oz) This piece is made from genuine Hetian Jade (Type A jade), meaning it is completely natural and has not undergone any chemical treatment or enhancement. For centuries, Hetian jade has been highly revered in Chinese culture. A stunning amulet for true connoisseurs and lovers of antique jade. This pendant is an ideal gift for a cherished one or a meaningful addition to your own collection.

Chinese Antique Qing Carved "Mutton Fat" Nephrite Plaque Pendant Certified
Located in Northampton, MA
Elegant, rare, and dating to the late Qing period (circa 1890s), this hand-carved nearly colorless white nephrite plaque has been etched on both sides. One one, the Chinese mythological figure known as Zhang Guo Lao is depicted riding a mule. On the opposite side, a magpie sits on a branch of cherry blossoms. The magpie is associated with intelligence. The carving is breathlessly simple and excellent; the work executed -of course- without the aid of electricity or modern tools. Measuring 42.54mm x 29.92mm, the plaque has a hole drilled through the center, which is original to the piece. A silver bail is threaded through the hole and a pair of beads -black jade and coral- reside at the bottom. The jade plaque hands from a 1920s silver chain that is 32" in length. Prior to the discovery of and appreciation for the very fine green jadeite from Burma, colorless, opaque, pure white nephrite jade from the Northern mountains of China was the most revered jade; the original "imperial jade, as only members of the royal court could wear or even touch it. Most of what is commercially sold today as "mutton fat...
