About the Item
We are pleased to present a very old pendant-amulet crafted from Hetian jade, featuring a carved depiction of a bird on a turtle. It dates back to the late Qing Dynasty (late 19th to early 20th century).
The motif of a bird on a turtle is a significant symbol in Chinese culture (prominently displayed, for instance, in Beijing's Forbidden City), representing double longevity and blessings. The turtle embodies wisdom, longevity, and protection, while the bird—most commonly a crane—symbolizes happiness, good health, and the fulfillment of wishes. Together, these symbols powerfully enhance the meaning of enduring life, and also represent wisdom, career advancement, health, and prosperity.
